We arrived in San Jose and chose 1 of our top pick hotels we'd marked in travel book, Hotel Yuka Inn, Poco a Poco. Great place, very low key or should I say VERY low key.

Very basic room, $400 pesos a night ($31 bucks or so) with super friendly owner, interesting grounds and offerings and Suzie Q's, an upstairs café. The hotel has some beautiful greenery along with a vegetable/herb garden in the center, an upstairs palapa with hammock and swap library, free wifi and a community kitchen available for those who want to cook meals. Suzie Q’s is run by Rene, her mom Claudia, and two guys, all whom seem to be good friends. Rene went to chef school in Europe and prides herself on tasty food served in a very comfy setting. Pretty hippie-ish décor, and super welcoming. I had breakfast there following my free coffee both mornings and we had a beer or two in the evenings – but since Rene is a chef, 'no tacos’. :)
I enjoyed an online chat with Beth while Paul talked with Rene and then we headed out for tacos. We walked up through town once everything was pretty much closed down and found El Fagon, a recommended taqueria which was very good, indeed.
