Tuk tuk's, the three wheeled scootaes that nip around in every direction have been a great way to get in touch with the city. Our lungs have become intimately aware of the city streets, inhaling the fumes from stinky old buses as their botched exhausts literally snake into our chariot and choke us with smog. Only thing I've smelled that's worse is lee's mozi repellent, mmm 50% deet, take that lungs... The tuk tuk's are ideal though, for getting around, with a starting charge of 50SriRs (about 25p) and an hour in one costing 480 (around 2.50) ya cannae argue with that.
Waiting in the air conditioned visa office, many queues with many people, it felt funny applying for an extension for a visa we'd only just received, like buying two pairs of  shoes without trying them on. Yes, Laura did give me a hand with the analogy.
Walked back over the quiet railway line after another evening meal on the beach. Mount Lavinia's beach stretches a few miles to the south of the heart of Colombo. Simple local dishes have kept us going, we're both keen to try the seafood, with small crafts dotted along other beach it's bound to be fresh and delicious, but for the time being, we're gambling with low stakes...not sure about papaya juice.
