Today I got on the bus with Nadia, heading up to Cairns. I got off at my stop at Townsville and got the ferry to my destination, Magnetic Island! This place is a slice of paradise, beautiful palm trees, 23 bays, plenty of sunshine and amazing wildlife. It's a beautiful island, full of lush rainforest and a national park. After some confusion with my accomodation I arrived at Base hostel, a pretty cool hostel right on the Nelly Bay, with gorgeous palm trees, a swimming pool and an outdoor bar/chill out area where everyone hangs. Today was a great day as I got the bus to the popular 'Forts Walk', where you can spot Koalas in the wild!! We were walking through the forrest and spotted five koalas, one was really low down the tree, within touching distance!! They are so cool and really chilled out lazy animals, it was brilliant to be so close to them and fulfill one of my goals in Australia. It is really crazy how you can just walk through this area and then spot them in the trees. The wildlife on Magnetic Island is pretty special. In the evening I met two girls from the Ferry and we chilled out at the Horseshoe Bay, had some food and drink and then touched back at base (sorry about the pun!), chatted a while then everyone went off to bed. I look forward to another day here in Magnetic Island.
