Today James and me went to Arrowtown on the bus, about a 45 minute drive from Queenstown. We went there mainly to learn a bit about its gold mining history but mainly to find the bakery and butchers where the buns and meat from ferburgers come from!! We first went to the Chinese settlement in town, a conservation area which describes the history of the gold mining which took place in Arrow River and how the Chinese in the 16th century went to Arrowtown to earn a living. There were old huts where the Chinese settlers lived whilst mining for gold, James and me had a look in some of them, they were quite fascinating and made you realise the harsh conditions the Chinese were living in so that they could maker a living. We also visited the graveyard and the impressive war memorial which was perched atop a hill overlooking part of Arrowtown. The rest of the day was spent playing in the park briefly and also looking around town in the local shops. One of the highlights though was tasting the juicy and soft pies from Arrowtown bakery, where Fergburger buns are made, they were awesome. We also went on an excursion (an appropriate word considering how far away it was) to the Butchers, where fergburger meat is made, after some snap shots we went back to the bus depot and back to Queenstown.
