Westport Day 45

Today I nearly missed the Kiwi Bus, apparently it was full but I managed to get a space on it. I chatted to most of the people on the bus briefly (about 35 of us) and we headed off to Westport. On the way we arrived at Lake Rotoiti, which was mind blowing, possibly my favourite bit of scenary in NZ. The lake is beautiful, surrounded by gorgeous snow-capped mountains. It took my breath away, after gazing in awe, Lisa, Kelli, Caitlin, Tom and me did the scenic beehive walk. On the way back we took some cool group photos and Kelli having to swim for her sandal that was floating away, we then got back on the bus. We went on a jetboat ride in the afternoon. An hour and a quarter of adrenaline filled, high-octane water-based action. The jetboat was quite good, we did some really great 360 degree turns, however I thought we were going to go a bit faster and expected it to be a bit more intense, however it was still good. In the evening we watched a couple of films.

Lake Mahinapua Day 46

Today we stopped off at the Punakaiki rocks, they are quite famous in New Zealand because they are shaped like Pancakes stacked on top of each other. We then ehaded onto Greymouth to get our fancy dress costumes for the party tonight at the Mahinapua Hotel. After spending a couple of hours with Lisa and choosing costumes we headed for the Pua pub (for short). Les an 84 year old guy lives there and is the host. The rooms smelt a bit funky where Les disinfects the rooms, but they were warm and alright. After helping my roomates Lloyd (Bubblewrap guy) and James (Facebook) get ready, I put on my ninja outfit and we headed off to the pua pub. The pub was quite small, but cosy with a fireplace, pooltable and polaroids of all the previous Kiwi Experience gruops all over the wall. Also Les collected loads of hats over the years and has them hanging over the ceiling. All 45 of us were dressed in our fancy dress costumes having a good time. Rachael and Lucy were dressed as Dice, Jo and Chanelle as Parrots and Lisa as a casino girl. Honourable mentions go out to Rubiks Cube guy, Mr Swine Flu and the Balloon Man. After some beers and laughs I got in at 12:30 and chatted and had some laughs with James and Lloyd.
