Day 33
Today we sett off at 12:30 for the white water rafting down the Kaituna river. After we got suited and booted we headed out onto the Kiatuna. It was me, Nick and 3 Irish guys in the raft. The scenary around the river was very picturesque and beautiful, there were 2m and 3m drops. The rapids where quite choppy, but were really enjoyable. The 7m drop was crazy, we had to get down and grab hold of the ropes on the boat as we plummeted vertically down the waterfall. I remember seeing the edge of the waterfall but the actual descent down it was kind of a blur. We were completely submerged and I only remember coming out of the water with the side of the boat tilted and the front of the boat (where I was) right in the air. Nick got thrown out of the boat so I had to fish him in. It was kind of awesome because as the boat hit the bottom of the water it was so close to flipping, it was really cool that we managed to hold on
Day 34
Today everyone did there own thing. I went for a gentle stroll around Rotorua, taking in the New Zealand pace of life. I got picked up from the hostel to go to Wai-O-Tapu thermal village to see old volcanic craters, steaming mud pools and other thermal wonders. I felt quite underwhelmed as I couldn't see the main hot mud pool as there was too much steam that day. In the evening we went to the bar for free pizza!!
