Where I stayed
It was about a two hour trip into "The City". We went over the George Washington Bridge and the first place we saw was the location where Captain Sully performed an emergency jet landing on the Hudson when birds flew into the engines on January 15, 2009. We drove by Trump Place, which consists of multiple buildings across multiple blocks. It is HUGE! We also got to see, Trump Tower. The entrance to Trump Tower is shown on the TV show, The Apprentice, when a contestant is fired. They leave the building through this doorway to get in the limo to leave the show.
We next drove by the filming of the Today Show. We could actually see Kathy Lee & Hoda through the window from the street as we drove by. Our next stop was Time Square, where we took a break and took some pictures
On a more emotional level, we saw Ground Zero. Very touching. As we got close to Ground Zero we saw buildings that have scaffolding on them because they are still removing marks/ash from the building from 9/11/2001. There is also a World Globe that was crushed during the fall of the twin towers but was retrieved from the rubble. When we got out of the van, we walked by a memorial for the Firemen who were on the scene of the disaster. We walked past Ground Zero and over to St. Paul's Cathedral across the street. They have memorials to the people and families lost as a result of 9/11. We also walked past a piece of the airplane that is erected in the form of a cross around the corner from the church. All of this is to remind us how vulnerable we are. As we went further down the block, we saw Church of St. Peter's, the oldest Catholic Parish in New York.
Our next stop is the terminal where we boarded the boat to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
It was a full day, but a great day.
