Took ferry from Wellington to Picton, where we got on bus to Nelson, near Abel Tasman National Park. I made a spur of the moment decision to try skydiving in the Abel Tasman National Park. The bus driver asked who wanted to go, and 3 of us decided to and it was awesome! One young woman from Scotland, one from Brazil (who is a civil lawyer) and me took the 'plunge'. We were feted back at the hostel for being so brave; even the guys on the bus admitted they were too scared to try it. We each went tandem with a skydiver and I really wasnt nervous until we were ont he plane, in our jumpsuits etc and locked into our skydiver and we were up in the air;t he next time i got REALLY scared was when the door opened and the first one just plunged down - first you saw them and then you didn't and then it was my turn. there was a small camera on the airplane's wing and so was instructed to look at the camera before plunging down 10,000 feet and it was the weirdest feeling to free fall thousands of feet above the ground and that was cool; had my camera out and took some pics! of the ground and of me and my 'partner' and then the chute opened and it was a really pull from above and not only slowed the plunge but seemed to bring us up as well. From then on I could really relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the coastline and 'Bob" steered us toward the hangar and we landed very smoothly. Got a certificate of accomplishment and I 'bought the t-shirt' - am wearing it now!
