Left Freemantle for Sydney on Sat. p.m. at 4:30 Virgin Blue airways, arrived Sydney at 10 p.m. and could not locate the Airport shuttle so went by subway. A little more expensive by 60 cents but got me to Sydney Central Railway station in 15 minutes. From there I wandered around, trying to find someone to ask where the Sydney Central YHA was, since I did not have a reservation. Found a map on the wall and walked to it.  Got a 4 bed multi share female (expensive $33) but was the only one in it for the night so a treat.  Went walking around on Sunday and took advantage of the Sydney Aroma Festival (tea and coffee kiosks) set up around the Rocks where diff. coffee shops were selling small cups of coffee for $1 and also there was free outdoor music; thousands of people around.  Then went to the Aust. movie called 'Lucky Miles' supposedly a comedy about boat people landing in Aust. (kind of contradiction in terms) and was billed as wry humour, wonderful comedy etc. I thought it was a dud and as I was walking out, a representative of the British magazine "Movie Review" wanted to know my opinion of the movie for next month's magazine. So I thought why not, only gave my first name just in case, and had to collect my thoughts to actually verbalize them - he taped me and took my photo and said look for it next month on the shelves. We'll see - he said it was available internationally. I must look like an easy mark, as I was also stopped at the coffee thing for my opinion but they needed a local person.  I don't know whether I mentioned it or not but I was also taped for comments about a demonstration in Hobart, Tasmania. As I wasn't local, I didn't want to comment but she said it was important to hear all views..
Anyway yesterday went back to My Hair International on the Rocks which is owned by my friend Terumi in Japan and said I tried to contact her by email but it bounced back. They gave me another email and then I got my hair cut. It is a wonderful salon, mainly Japanese clients; open 7 days a week.
Yesterday I booked my flight to Auckland, leaving Thursday July 26 3:30 p.m. for the 3 hour flight. Can't believe it is the last country on my itinerary before heading back to Canada!  Then Sean, who I  met at the free jazz festival and who plays piano and I went to hear play at Bar None, a club in King's Cross, met me for dinner at the YHA restaurant which is the best deal in town.
I had planned to leave here on Wed. but decided to take up an offer of a ride to Canberra, the capital city of Australia (which is officially in the 'Australian Capital Territory" rather than in Victoria, Queensland, etc.) by car today for a couple of days, returning to Sydney airport for my flight to NZ on Thursday.  It is supposed to be very cold in Canberra and NZ (funny how it gets colder the more south one goes here in the southern hemisphere).  The weather is quite nice here, about 12 or so but of course people say it is too cold...  I have developed a cold, which apparently is going around. But considering I often go 9 or 10 days in 9 or 10 different beds/communities, it is a wonder I am still relatively healthy! (I think).
