Perth is another beautiful city and much warmer than the rest of Australia right now.  Got to get at this update before I move on any further!  Went on a free walking tour of the downtown area with a volunteer tour guide and I was the only one, so got a great tour for about 2 hours.  Met a couple of young women from England at the Perth Hostel on Wellington St., a block from the Railway Station and a couple of blocks from the Northbridge area which is where the night spots are. Anyway we got talking, they didn't know each other before either, and we ended up meeting the next night and seeing the new Harry Potter film. Entertaining as always. I also went to a foreign film called "As It Is In Heaven" and here is a website and a review I recommend it for people who sing or teach music as it has some helpful hints, as well as being a story dealing with relationships and self examination. Some may find it cheesy but I found it very good and so did many others as after the movie and a couple of people just wanted to talk about it after and expressed an interest in buying the DVD.  It won't be playing in mainstream cinemas but may be on DVD in the foreign film section at some point.  The other film I saw was "Knocked Up' and I expected it to be better due to all the hype - it was entertaining but did not live up to its reputation...  Aside from all the movies, I went to the beautiful State Museum (Perth is the capital of West Australian and is the most isolated capital city in the world, apparently) I must say that all communities and cities that I have been to in Australia appear to be very 'manicured' and 'polished'  with nothing apparently run down or visually unappealing.  Canada has a much more rustic feel and community infrastructure, but many Australians have been to Canada (most doing the Vancouver - Rocky Mountaineer train trip to Banff and Jasper and some Ship to Prince Rupert and or Alaska) and the others all want to go to Canada, although the two countries are very much alike except for what I just said!  All city buses in the central area of Perth are free so I have been taking advantage of that.and took it, with my 3 backpacks... to the 'Bus Port' to get my 4 hour bus on SouthWest Bus to Busselton, where my friend Sheila, whom I met in Vietnam on a tour to the Ho Chi Minh Tunnels, and who lives close tonearby Metricup, picked me up and I spent a wonderful night on their beautiful cattle farm, right in the Margaret River wine growing area. more on that in the next blog from Metricup.
