Had a progressive day, recovered my fanny
pack and some docs, found behind 'Martin's Pub' down the street from my
Guesthouse. I ate breakfast there this a.m and I was talking to the
owner, a nice Norwegian guy, Sven, who is married to Pa, a Laotian about
their nightly videos - I think i'll go tonight it is about the secrets
behind Catholic Church, and I told him I had been robbed just a few
doors down, and that I had been looking around to see if anything had
been discarded in back alleys etc. He suggested that I meet with the
Village Chief who would intervene on my behalf to get an official
Police report, which I don't have as the local police did not write
anything down! Anyway, I was to come back at 1 and they would take me
to the Chief and I was walking past on my way downtown and they ran
after me and said an elderly local had brought in this fanny pack and
it had foreign stuff in it and it was my 'Top of the World' pack in
which I kept my camera and copies of passport etc. Camera was gone of
course but the other stuff was there. Happened just after I left! So
they took me right away to the Chief, he wrote things down through Pa
who interpreted and tomorrow we are meeting at Martin's Pub and they
will take me to Police Station!
Am making plans to meet up with Brian and Carolyn - will either be in Ko Samet, Thailand or Sihanoukville, Cambodia but my Cambodia visa dates would need to be changed as I thought I'd be going after Vietnam not before. Good thing there is a Cambodian Embassy in Vientiane, where I have to get to anyway to proceed back down to Bangkok. Am getting my CD photos made in BKK - quality is not good here - so I don't run risk of losing the CDs and not having any pics at all.
I will be probably leaving here day after tomorrow, depending on what train I can get from Thai /Laos border to Bangkok. Don't want to overnight again without a sleeper when the cost increase is minimal and the comfort is not.
