This trip started a few months ago when my uncle posted a bulletin on MySpace offering a nearly free trip to Hawaii "Pay for your airfare and 1/3rd of the rental car and Hawaii can be yours." HELL YEAH! Done and done. I booked a ticket to arrive the day before he got there so I could settle in and then meet he and my aunt at the airport.

I've always wanted to fly somewhere far away with no reservations and somehow manage. And that's exactly what I did in Maui. I flew into OGG (LFT -> IAH -> LAX -> OGG), asked the desk person to recommend a few places and I decided on the one that offered a free shuttle, poodoo ass Maui Beach Hotel. I had $35 cash to my name (the rest of my cash was stuck in an account to which I lost my ATM card) but that was enough to take out $20 to tip the guy to and from the airport. The room was $120 a night, which was a bit excessive for how ghetto it was, but c'est la vie.

I checked in and asked where I should eat. The gentleman offered a few non-appetiziing places so I decided to walk around and I came across a local grocery store, Foodland. I know that some of the most authentic Cajun food can be found in grocery stores so I figured I could find some authentic Hawaiian food at Foodland and sure enough. I picked up some Kulua pork with cabbage, a sushi seafood wrap, lomilimi salmon salad and pineapples! I liked it well enough. Then I went back to Ghettoland Maui Beach Hotel (which was nowhere near a beach) and retired for the night. It was about 8 Hawaiian time but that's about my bed time here -- I have to keep the same hours I do in Louisiana because I'm working from here so....... Night!
