From here we went to the popular and lush Litchfield National Park. Arriving in the afternoon we stuck to swimming and relaxing in the Cascades near to where we were camping. It was a quieter spot than others which just added to the picturesque spot that seemed to attract lots of tiny electric blue dragonflies.
The next day at Litchfield we planned to play at the popular swimming sights after having a look at Tulmer Falls and Wangi Falls (which was closed due to the likelihood that saltwater crocs might still be lurking in the water after the Wet)
Next on the agenda was Florence Falls, after a steep decline of 140 steps we rock-hopped into the large pool of water where the tall falls cascaded into. Lovely!
Our next adventure was to be at Bitter Springs in Mataranka. This scenic spot had the most clear water to swim in despite all of the mossy logs and rocks on the spring bed. The water was really warm too, so it was very easy to find a comfy spot to relax at by holding onto a trees root (the current would take you away if you didn't hold on!) Further on was a thermal pool that was much more touristy and even though the water was a good temperature, the scene was spoilt a bit by the crowds crammed into the pool.
So, we've done lots of swimming lately and acted like water babies. Our journey South now begins!
