Our last few days with Megan and Abi were spent in bustling Fremantle.  A gorgeous city just half an hour from Perth, Freo gave us plenty to see and do!
The first night there we booked to go on a torchlight tour of Fremantle Convict Prison which entertained and spooked us, particularly because the cell blocks were still inhabited by inmates in 1991 but the building itself looked like something from the Victorian times. It was really interesting to hear some of the stories about why people were sent to Western Australia's biggest prison and good to learn about how the convicts actually built the prison themselves.
A hop, skip and a jump across the Indian Ocean was Rottnest Island which we visited by ferry. This tiny island was a haven for cyclists and swimmers with countless scenic rides round the island and numerous beautiful bays to perfect our snorkelling skills. We opted for the unusual style of riding by hiring tandems! Once we had mastered the dual pedalling system, we rode round the island and discovered the native Rottnest animal, a quokka - which is a small rodent type animal but cuter!

On Good Friday, we thought we'd take advantage of the heat and head to cruisy Cott for a day on the beach like we had done when Abi and Megan first arrived in Australia. We happened to be in Freo at the same time as the Street Arts Festival where we witnessed some impressive (and not so impressive) acts. The city had a great atmosphere down the main 'Cappucino Strip' over the weekend and the bars and cafes were filled with coffee-lovers sipping alfresco style.

Sadly, Freo was the end of Megan and Abi's holiday and even though our hostel was pretty poor (Cheerios stuck to the carpet of dorm when we arrived), Freo was a fun place to relax and unwind for their last few days!
