I had decided to hire a car which meant I had the freedom to come and go between cardiff and monmouth as often as I needed to make sure that I saw as many people as possible. Without it I would have struggled! It worked really well in the end as I went through to Cardiff most days to see friends but Mum and Dad both felt they saw lots of me too. My only regret is that I didn't manage time to get up North to see both sides of the family which would have been lovely but with just over 2 weeks in the UK wasn't very practical. I'll have to arrange a little tour around the north east and north west when I get back to catch up with everyone! And to meet the new addition to our family baby Kate!
Speaking of babies, my best friend is over 5 months pregnant so we spent a good amount of time baby shopping and oohing and ahhhing over tiny little baby clothes. Who knew shopping for baby fashion could be as fun as shopping for my clothes addiction?!! I got a little too excited over how much cheaper and better quality clothes were in the UK and my wardrobe is somewhat 'ahem' healthier now... I actually had to post stuff back to Oz as I was over my baggage allowance....
As well as my shopping fix I was also able to get my salsa fix which was well overdue. In Byron there are lessons and I am still having private lessons but the social dancing is a little sparse and when there are occasional salsa parties, I am invariably working! So I was so excited to put on my dancing shoes and hit the dance floor with some good friends. Thanks especially to Sarah who made herself available for just about every salsa opportunity in the time I was at home!
One of the main reasons I went home was for the wedding of my friends Kim and Gareth. Held in a gorgeous church in Gloucestershire with drinks on the lawn and a reception in a barn nearby, it was just beautiful! And of course so was the bride - what a lovely dress! I'll try and upload some piccies. It was also a fantastic opportunity for a reunion with my friends from university. Kim and Gareth are now planning another exciting adventure and in a few months they will also be in working in Australia! Looking forward to seeing them out here!
The rest of my time was taken up with lots and lots of lunches and dinners putting a rather big dent in my credit card...! But it meant that I managed to catch up with almost everyone (minus a few people who I will make sure I see on my next visit!) Many of my friends travelled a fair way to Cardiff to see me which meant a lot so thank you guys! And thanks to Louise, Rachel and Sarah who literally at the last minute were able to hop in the car and meet me in worcester less than 24hrs before I left for Oz! It was so great seeing everyone and really reminded me how many reasons we have to move back to South Wales on our return from Australia. In fact I was quite sad leaving the UK again although looking forward to seeing Wyn, my Oz friends and of course our next adventures!
I've been back just over a week now. The jet lag really hit me hard this time especially as I was straight back to work the next day for 4 12hr shifts. I couldn't talk or write properly and I tried to leave the hospital without my keys and wearing a hospital gown! But fortunately all my ICU patients survived my jet lag to tell the tale! Ive had 3 days off so Wyn and I have had some quality time together which has been nice. Now its back to night shifts tonight...
There's plenty to look forward to over the next few months though. Many of my friends in the UK are planning visits and at the start of august, Wyns Mam Susan and his brother Joe are visiting for a few weeks. Then in October its my parents turn and theres talk of us going to Cairns on their visit. Wyn and I are planning our trip to New Zealand for next summer (your winter.) I will hopefully be back in the UK again end of Feb for interviews this time. No weddings sadly! In the nearer future, there is my works winter ball in a few weeks and Splendour music festival to look forward to. Wyn wasn't too fussed about splendour as its pretty expensive and mostly australian bands but they are now advertising for staff to gain free tickets so he's thinking about doing that. He's also recently started getting interested in teaching as a career so whilst work is sparse in Byron, he is trying to get some work experience too. I can definitely see him as a teacher as he's fab with kids.
Anyway thats all for now, I will update you all again soon. Thanks again to all my friends and family who made my trip to the UK so fun! I will miss you all! xx
