Just a little update mostly to remind you I am coming home in 4 weeks for 2 1/2 weeks so please schedule some time in your diary for me! Can't wait to see everyone and catch up!

It has been an emotional rollercoaster of a month with many highs and lows. Sadly my grandfather passed away last week rather suddenly. Ofcourse it is a blessing for him that he did not have any prolonged suffering although it came as a huge blow to the whole family. Sad too, that I won't get to see him on my trip home. But I have many treasured memories - he was always the life and soul of any party! Something like this really reminds you how important home is and whilst I love Australia and we are both having a ball, I think I shall also be happy to come home in July next year. Especially as I also received some good news recently, a very close friend of mine is going to have a baby in October! So when I do eventually come home, I will be so excited to get to know this new little person! Whilst on the subject of babies, a huge welcome to Kate Woodward, my cousins new baby born just last week! I can't wait to meet her! She's so beautiful!

Life in Byron is much the same although it's getting a little cooler. I'm not able to use the pool much anymore which is a shame as I got used to my morning swims! The shops are begining to stocks hats coats and scarfs but I fail to see thats very neccessary! We arrived in winter and were still in shorts and tshirts but I guess we'll see how much we've acclimatised...!

The cooler weather has meant footy season has arrived (or soccor as they call it here) so Wyn has been in his element. He's joined the Byron footie team which seems to be a pretty good one and he's playing in the premier league! They train twice a week plus have atleast one match so I barely seem to see him in the evenings but atleast he's having fun! He's launched himself into his fitness as well - the madman seems to like running 15km up hills and along beaches!

I am doing a new job working in intensive care. It's certainly very different to my prior jobs but I am quite enjoying it! I'm learning a lot as the consultants are a huge fountain of knowledge. I am finding the hours challenging but atleast I get plenty time off as well. Basically I work 12.5 hours a day for 7 days and then have 7 days off. With a 45 minute commute each way, I basically eat sleep and work for a week but the weeks off are fab! Even if I spend the 1st 48hrs just recovering! The content of the work is obviously quite different and its the 1st time Ive been responsible for patients on ventilators but its not quite as scary as you would think! In some ways its less scary as we have a lot more control over their physiology! I get to do a lot more procedures as well such as PICC lines and I also attend all the rapid response calls throughout the hospital to assess patients for suitability for transfer to intensive care.

I'm on my last 12 hour stint at the moment - due to finish in 2 hours! As you may have guess it is very quiet today as we only have 2 patients and both are extubated! Quite a contrast to the rest of the week where we have been rushed off our feet with every bed full and having to refuse some very sick patients and send them to alternative hospitals! In a few days I am meeting up with Ashleigh and Rosie again. I havent seen them since new year so looking forward to that. We are off to the Whitsundays again for another boat trip. Perhaps its slightly excessive to go there twice in a few months but I loved that place the 1st time round and this may be my only chance to go back! I also think it will do me good after a stressful few weeks to have some R&R and be with some friends from home.

Anyway that is all for now. See you all very very soon!
