It started with a bit of a blonde moment, having made all the arrangements whilst I was on nights (hence semi conscious!), I had forgotten that Id received a message from the girls with a change in flight plans. Therefore we were all baffled about why we couldnt find eachother even though we all claimed to be right outside arrivals door... Yep you guessed it - wrong airport! Fortunately the gold coast is only and hour from brisbane so rosie and ash went to find a coffee whilst I headed north to pick them up and drive onto Noosa.
Noosa is a little coastal town on the sunshine coast renowned for being a bit chic. It often gets compared to Byron but actually its a much bigger place and a lot posher
The next day we went to Australia Zoo which is the one owned by steve irwins family. As it was school half term, his kids were there and yes his 7 year old was feeding crocodiles...! It was a fantastic place and very hands on. I got to feed an elephant and the girls cuddled koalas like we did in brisbane. I was in my element with photographing animals and was pleased with a couple of my shots of tigers and lizards :-) On the way back to brisbane we stopped off at a viewing point to admire the Glass house mountains which are gorgeous. I'd like to go back there with Wyn and do some walking.
Our 3rd day was spent on moreton island, about a 90 min boat ride from the city. There we joined a group of 8 people to go 4 wheel driving on the island. Moreton is a sand island so only 4wd cars can drive there. Its a pretty bumpy fun ride but fortunately it didnt take us too long to get to our detination as all 3 of us are prone to travel sickness! We then went sandboarding in a mini dessert in the middle of the island. I had imagined a tame gentle slope but no
The girls hadn't seen Brisbane so they set off for a day of sightseeing but I had a few jobs to do in town like changing my phone provider (I used to have to drive 10mins for signal to make a phonecall as reception in byron is shocking!) So I met up with the girls later and we went to an amazing restaurant overlooking storytellers bridge followed by strawberry champagne at an austrian bar where the staff all wore ridiculous austrian outfits which were very amusing! Then it was back to work the following morning.
Wyn and I had 2 day off together last week so we drove to the gold coast to go to seaworld which was brilliant. The dolphin show was a highlight and you could get really close to the animals. There was also some themepark rides which were pretty good
The next day Wyn and I had to sort out my bike which we had bought off hippies the week before and it had broken on the way home! But they gave us our money back but not without accusing us of riding on sand! So Im still looking for a bike, might have to bite the bullet and buy a brand new one but atleast it shouldnt conk out after 10mins! Still it was a funny experience at the hippys house - at one point the guy said 'im hot' and next thing you know hes having a shower in the garden with the hose fully clothed! Theres so many local hippies here - I remember at work seeing a small baby with a wheezy chest and her mum was despairing because 'burning incense just wasn't helping!!!!'
No new travel plans for the moment. The girls are trying to persuade me to go to cairns next week but I think I need to save a few $$ 1st as I want to get my new camera this month. So they might come and visit us in Byron, not sure yet. Wyn and I are hoping to get to the blue mountains reasonably soon before it gets too hot, and now the weather is warming up, We might also try to go to melbourne for a few days as we both fancy a trip to the neighbours set
Anyway thats all for now, hope you're all ok, be in touch soon! I've uploaded lots of photos for previous entries too, for those of you requesting to see more pictures!! x
