It's been a fair while since the last update but it has been a busy few weeks.

I've been working at Lismore for almost a month now and I'm beginning to settle in.  I'm getting more confident but it's still stressful at times! Emergency medicine is very different here to the UK where it is more of a triage service. Here however, we keep the patients much longer so we do a lot more specialised procedures and investigations direct from ED and patients have a full work up before they get accepted by the appropriate speciality. Basically that means it takes us much longer to sort them out and we also have to be a 'jack of all trades.' So it can be very challenging at times but ultimately it's the best experience I can have and will be a huge benefit to me when I get back to the UK - especially if I specialise in general practice.  I've also treated my 1st snake bite. Luckily the child was fine and it was an interesting case as we don't see a lot of snake bites in the UK! However, it sparked a lot of creepycrawly talk amongst the staff and I think the ozzie doctors enjoyed scaring us brits with stories of huntsman spiders in the bathroom, snakes in the laundery basket and tarantulas in the ED department! I havent been able to sleep in my sleeping bag since even though its freezing at night!

It was Wyns birthday last week and luckily I managed to swap out of my shift at the hospital. One of wyns presents was an annual pass to the gold coast themeparks which are about an hour from Byron. So we went to the warner bros movie world for the day which was great fun. There was a few big rollercoasters and we were lucky that it was midweek and technically still winter (even though it was boiling hot!) so the park was quiet and we didn't have to queue for more than 10 minutes. The ticket also includes entry to seaworld and wet n'wild so we'll be making a few more trips to the gold coast. In the evening we went to byron for a night out and stayed in a hostel as we hadn't moved into our new house yet. It was a fab night which ended in cheeky monkeys as most byron nights out do. That place reminds me of some of the student bars we frequented at uni - think smoke machines, limbo competitions and dancing on tables...

It was also my friend Rosie's birthday a few days ago and as I had a few days off work, I headed to Sydney where the girls are based. Wyn decided to stay In byron to continue the job hunt and also to test his new surf board out! The first day i was pretty tired as I had moved house that day and not slept at all due to woking late then catching a 6am flight! So I just went to bondi junction for a few hours to the shopping mall then headed to Darling Harbour in the evening to meet rosie when she finished work for dinner. Darling harbour at night was beautiful and we found a fantastic little talian restaurant. The next day the girls were working so I headed to Sydney harbour to see the opera house and the bridge. They are so iconic - it's strange to see them in real life! There are also some beautiful botanic gardens next to the theatre  which I had a wander through. That evening with a few hours left to kill, I decided to head to a salsa night in the city. I'd never usually go to a bar on my own so it felt a little strange but after a while I got chatting to some people and ended up having a fantastic night probably dancing even more than a usual night in cardiff. There were so many fantastic dancers there - Sydney salsa definantly lives up to its reputation! Having only danced once in the past 6 weeks, I was aching all over the next day and my feet were in pieces! A sign of a good night out! On tuesday it was rosies birthday and rosie and ash both had the day off so we spent it exploring some of the beaches in sydney. Botany Bay (where the first european settlers landed) was absolutely beautiful! We had a pretty special night out for her 26th starting at Sydney revolving tower restaurant for a buffet of crocodile, buffalo and kangaroo overlooking the entire city all lit up by the city lights - stunning. We then walked to the harbour and had cocktails and champagne at the outdoor opera house bar, listening to a live band and overlooking Sydney bridge. It was a perfect night! Theres so much left to see in Sydney but hopefully I will go back soon, probably with Wyn to explore the Blue Mountains. The girls have the same few days off as me in october so were probably going away again though not sure where yet. Flights are expensive that weeked due to a bank holiday! We did consider going to Ayers rock but Wyn and I have decided to leave that until we go backpacking now  so that we can get the Ghan train through the outback on our way to Asia.

I'm back in Byron now and enjoying settling into the new house (as we only moved in a few hours before I left for sydney!) The only downside of the house so far is that the phone signal is rubbish! That said, we now have wifi (so skype will be significantly easier!) as well as mod cons such as a washing machine and a huge digital TV so I can finally watch neighbours again! We also tried out the pool today but its way to cold yet and I only lasted 2 lengths!

Wyns enjoying his surfing now he's got a new board, although its a bit too cold yet so he also invested in a wetsuit. He's not had a lot of luck on the job front - there's so little about at the moment! But he's had a few interviews that he's waiting to hear back about and he's meeting our neighbours brother for a chat tomorrow who works in finance so were hoping he may have some contacts. I'm sure something will come up!

Well thats about all for now! Hope you're all ok!
And Abbie, have an amazing birthday tomorrow, I'm sorry I can't be with you for it!
