Whale spotting on Straddie

Wyn enjoyed watching the surfers although I think part of him was regreting not bringing his wetsuit with him that day! We had a short walk and managed to spot whales in the distance as they passed by migrating north. The area is famous for seeing them as is byron bay so we may see a few more yet! Mostly we just saw spray coming out of the water like puffs of smoke but occasioanlly we saw a fin come crashing down! We had planned to cycle to the lakes but hadn't realised that it is too far to travel and a taxi would charge >£30. But Stradbroke is so beautiful and not too far from Byron Bay that I'm sure we will go back, next time with the car so we can explore more of the island! I also want to go to Moreton island which is close by and there you can hand feed wild dolphins who swim into the bay every evening to voluntarily interact with humans - I can't wait for that!
Today the weather turned a bit and we have had quite a few showers mixed in with some sunshine. So we have had a quiet day, only going out to the supermarket to stock up on essentials and treating ourselves to lunch in a restuarant. We found a great gourmet burger restaurant and my tomatoe and ale burger was delicious. We've been living mainly off a diet of sandwiches since we got here (to keep prices down) so we really appreciate good food when we have it. Will be easier from tomorrow when we move into our flat in the hospital so I can start cooking!
Tomorrow the plan is to head down to lismore and move into the flat. We have free accomodation and bills for 1 month which will really take the pressure off us whilst wyn is looking for a job. Its also handy that I will get paid fortnightly so it wont be too long until we have an income again as I start work a week tomorrow! Anyway I'll leave you now with a few more pictures of beautiful Brisbane and Stunning Stradbroke...
The last few days we've tried to be a bit money conscious as we are fast learning how expensive everything is here! Even a small bottle of orange juice is about £2.50!So we've stayed around brisbane and found cheap things to do like a walk in the park in the south bank region. The south bank is a bit like cardiff bay - all posh restaurants and boutique shopping. But there are also some lovely botantical gardens and a man made beach to explore. There are also BBQ stations all over the park which I think is a pretty great idea! The weather was gorgeous on friday so we had a lovely day exploring brisbane properly. Yesterday we had planned to stay on Stradbroke island but unfortunately the only hostel was fully booked and other hotels were too expensive! Still, we decided to go for a day trip and we are glad we made the effort as the island is absolutely stunning! It is the worlds 2nd largest sand island with beautiful cliffs and beaches with turquoise water - the views were breathtaking!
