Papi was strumming the guitar as we plunged our hands into the massive garbage bag full of "munecitos" (little dolls). The decoartion theme in our house this Christmas is "peluches" (stuffed animals/dolls) and Mami has been preparing for this day for weeks now.
Every year she finds a different media to express her adoration of "Navidad" and tonight I saw all of her past creations. There are carefully decorated porcelain faces of Santa Claus and his wife; 3D wooden creations are covered in glitter; fabric banners great you to the house; and this years stuffed Snowmen, Reindeer, and Miss Claus have a place in the house. There isn't a single place that has been neglected of Mami's attention.
By the time we all got home the only project left was to decorate the tree, and Mami gladly watched her girls delight in the task. Each little stuffed figurine found a perfect place on our artificial tree and was illuminated by the multicolored lights. When we finished we took a step back and admired what is going to be the centerpiece of our home for the next two months. It is perfect! Combined with the other green, red, and white accessories adorning the home I feel like I'm in a winter wonderland (despite the fact that I was sun bathing today).
There is garland draping over the mirrors; festive curtains to dim the sunshine; elegant table cloths adding color; enchanting pillows providing comfort; and Mami's homemade creations everywhere to embellish the holiday vibe.
Christmas is over a month away and right now it feels like it should be just around the corner, and I'm told it only gets better from here!
