What I did
Waiting around for hours...

Today started out at 7 am. We got to DIA and ended up checking 3 bags and made our way to Terminal B. We boarded the plane and waited for some time. The pilot then announced that the engine was broken and we would need to return to the gate to fix it. There was no telling how long it was going to take. So, we ended up missing our connecting flight in Houston to make it to Panama City later that tonight.
Now here I am in a hotel room, a complete 12 hours later. We had to wait 2 hours to get vouchers for a hotel and food, 1 hour to get our luggage, 45 minutes to get the shuttle to the hotel, and another 20 to get the room. I am so thankful that I didn't have to go through it all alone! I've got me a good mother, thats for sure!
I have never been to Texas before, but the saying is true-everything is bigger. Here I have noticed the attitude of the people is all about having more. Just the difference between DIA and Houston's airport makes me think about how different two places can be even in the same country. It makes me wonder what Colombia will actually be like. And with all this time on my hands today I had plenty of time to think about the next four months. I hadn't had the opportunity to contemplate the time yet and when I did I started to get sad. I was going to miss home! The solution then was to not have any free time to think about home, therefore my eyes would stay dry. I'm not a fan of crying, I don't mind when others cry but when I start to cry I do my best to stop as soon as I can. I'm sure, however, that this trip will test my limits and at least once, one tiny tear might fall.
The culture of Texas has been my first experience on this journey and so far "Houston Hospitality" hasn't been so bad. Tomorrow I move onward to Panama and finally Medellin!!
I know tomorrow will go well, because it is Andrew Claymon's birthday and only good things can happen on a day like that!
