We missed Venice on the bus so we are making our own little detour to see what all the fuss is about. Spent most of the first day travelling to Venice and the next part of the day travelling out to our camp site which is a pretty long way out of town. Grrr!
TERRIBLE NIGHT SLEEP!!! 1. The slats on Gregs camp bed were actually broken before we got into bed so when they fell through in the middle of the night we had to share. 2. The pommy girls next door were both retarded and fucking annoying and kept bringing guys back to thier tent until 3-4 3. Our whole tent smelt of Chlorine as we were right next to the pool.
4. We were also right next to the bar - there was some kind of yelling competition 5. Mosquiitos - had to sleep with my sheet over my head In the morning I got up and complained and got both my money back and a new tent. Sweet Took the shuttle into town and took a Vaporetto (water taxi) all the way into St Marks square which was packed equally with tourists and pidgeons. Headed into the Cannaregio section of town which was fascinating and a lot less packed. People going on Gondala rides (aw!) and con men selling the dancing cardboard disney characters which fooled Toby. After a Traghetto ride (gondola for many people to cross the canal) we walked through the fish market and along the second bridge which sold stuff all the way along. Had a coffee and another wander through the labrynth of streets before heading home. We were pretty tired from bugger all sleep the night before so we were going to have a beer and decide. We decided to try a rather jazzy sounding beer by the name of Splugen which I decided tasted exactly like Coopers Pale Ale. Unfortunately the tool of the year 'pro backgamon' as he was later called, decided to join us and we spent the next hour politely trying to escape.
TERRIBLE NIGHT SLEEP - THE SEQUAL!!! 1. At about 2 we awoke to hear the people in the tent across from us having rather loud and vigorous sex (in italian) 2. Mosquitos - just as bad as last night 3. New group of load and annoying pommy girls in tent right next door to us coming home late 4. New group of loud and annoying pommy boys came to find the loud and annoying pommy girls to get the "tent party" started in the tent right next door to us Had a shower at about 5 and had about 1 hour sleep after that making a total of 3 for the night. Headed back into town with backpack and went to the Peggy Guggenheim which was one of the nicest and most managable galleries I have visited yet. Back to Florence
