Rocky beaches

After recommendation from a lady in Split we headed out to the island of vis. It took about 2 hrs on the car ferry and rocked up at the tourist office looking for somewhere to stay.

Not much availability but we ended up with a nice very old place with plenty of charm where the bedroom was upstairs and kitchen and bathroom downstairs but the stairs between them were outside.

First day we spent most of our time keeping out of the heat and checked out the beach nearby in the late afternoon.

The next morning we had a slow start to the morning, made slower by our first taste of croatian TV. At 10am, the fresh prince of bel air, 10:30 very early episodes of full house, 11 family matters with steve erkyll, 11:30 home improvement. what a morning!  After a very taxing morning we got going and went down to the tourist office to book a scooter for the day where the very friendly and smiley young girls told us a scooter was available at 3.

At 3 i went down and picked it up and my very first ever time on a scooter or motor bike was pretty good fun. Apart from a slightly dodgy take off when leah first got on the back which sent her legs flying up in the air it was all smooth sailing. Reaching speeds up to about 50km/h we made our way around the coast stopping at various beaches along the way for a few swims. Got to Komiza in the late afternoon and had a beer in the sun before riding home on the main road back to Vis reaching speeds of over 60km/h! We parked old scooty in our little courtyard and walked back towards the town looking for somewhere for tea. We found an amazing little pizza place (pizzeria karijola) sitting outside under trees with good cheap beers, awesome pizzas and norah jones playing in the background.  What more could you want?

The beach front

Got going early (by our recent standards) to make the most of our scooty before we had to give him back at 3. Leah was in the drivers seat and we returned to a nice sandy beach from the day before where we lay on the beach read Harry Potter and cooled off when we got too hot (about every 15 mins).  The best thing about Croatian beaches is the bars.  There are these tiny little secluded beaches but you are never far away from a nice shady place to enjoy a beer right on the beach.  The Croatians have obviously thought things through!

Returned the scooter at 3 very satisfied with our first scooter experience.  That night we returned to the same pizza place and once again left vary satisfied.
