Arrived in Copenhagen and met Toby at the hostel. Although it was raining the guys wanted to go for a bit of an explore so Toby led us around the sights and sounds - but really he was after a famous copenhagen hot dog! They were pretty skinny little sausages but 'with the lot' included sauce, mustard, tatare, sausage wrapped in bacon, dried fried onion, fresh onion and gherkins. Yumbo!
After a late start we headed for this boat hire place that Toby had wanted to do when he was in Copenhagen for the festival last year. It was closed but we will keep it in mind for another day. There was a shopping mall close by so we stuck our heads in to have a look for sack trucks. We found a frame but no wheels(?!?) and a new diary although I was very close to buying the rabbit one!
After that we headed out to Christiania which was a very different place. Basically a whole heap of hippies took over this disused army barracks in the 60's and since then the government has not been able to kick them out. Nowadays, they just smoke pot, grow dred locks and hang out around fire buckets. We had a look around and watched some acrobatic street performers. Although it was in danish I think we got the gist. After tea we decided to go for another walk to see the sights of copenhagen but right outside our hostel was one city bike (20kr deposit) and decided to go and find some more. Using the map of where you can re-lock your bike up we went on a little treasure hunt to find 2 more city bikes and just about walked all over the city stopping past 7-11 for cheep beers along the way. After about 5km and a dozen bike free city bike racks we found a secret stash and cycled our way to the canal. It was the best of times it was the blurst of times - especially when I rode into a bush trying to zing gregs back tyre and ding the bell while changing hands on my cold beer. Good times!
The next day we went to the Louisiana art museum in the nearby town of Humblebaek which Toby had gone to last time and said "it was the first museum which was not completely lost on me". High praise! It was a very different modern museum with some pretty cool and interesting stuff but it did have the major draw back of no food within 5km or more so we ended up buying lunch in the museum cafeteria where we spent the equivilant of 6 Aussie dollars on 1/2 a cheese and radish sandwich - NO SHIT!
