Leah, Greg
Got to Munich to find out first double bed of the trip. Flippin Sweet! We were pretty excited about this pub crawl which called itself "the thinking mans pub crawl" because it was supposed to explain all the beers and thier tastes. I think my first doubts about its validity were during the "hour of power" which included unlimited free beer and jager shots on a self made beer garden just right outside the easy internet cafe. Oli, our guide, was quite good and did tell us a bit of this and that about the beers and the beer gardens but the best bit was when he was explaining the German cheers which is called "Prost!" When he was showing us how to do an authentic Prost he called for a volunteer and obviously the loudest American stepped forward. When they did the Prost, Oli broke his whole beer stein (1 lietre stein). We all thought it was an accident until he told us the trick to which we could hear the American nicknamed patches (O´Houlihan - dodgeball) say "that f*#kin little bastard. Im gonna get him!" Luckily he was a pretty good guy and had a good sense of humour. We went to the Augustiner beer garden and the Lowenbrau beer garden each for about an hour and a half before ending up in a hostel club about 2 doors down from our hostel which had kareoke. Greg and I sung Dont stop me now - Mr Farenheit (Queen) before going to bed.
Didn´t think we could make it to the free wombats (hostel) tour of Munich so went down for another free tour at the more respectable hour of 11:30. It was quite good as usual but I dont hink that Munich quite has the history as some of the other cities. Our camera was way out of batteries and had to leave it behind on the tour but it was ready and raring to go in the evening when we went out for tea and was able to pretty easily and quickly retrace the tour and end up at the Hoffbrauhaus. Had to leave our beautiful (but expensive) private room and checked into a very messy 6 bed dorm. Decided that today we would check out the Englischer Garten which was enormous! They had this man made wave where there were tonnes of surfers and we stopped and watched them for ages. It was about a 10m wide stream with edges made of stone. Went to get lunch at a nearby supermarket and enjoyed that in the park. We were just getting settled in and the Wombats tour came past with some busabout people on. So we went with them and had beer in one of the many beer gardens within the garden before heading home.
