Got into salzburg and after a long time checking in we were off to the alps to see the largest ice caves in the world and getting there involved going up the 2nd steepest cable car in europe. I would be very interested to see how much steeper than this they get. The alps themselves were quite spectacular and the ice caves an amazing natural phenomenom, but more amazing is someome actually found them and then decided to climb through them. That night we set out with a group of about 10 of us to the Augustiner Beergarden to taste the beer made by monks and served in 1 litre ceramic steins. They were very good and after a few litres of beer each we all went back to the hostel bar when the beergarden served last drinks. A couple more was all we needed and we were off to bed.
woke up and found the perfect thing to do in salzburg the morning after a big night- watch the Sound of Music, the hostel screens it everyday at 10:30. 3 hours later we headed out for a walk up the hill and around the town. that night we discovered something strange going on in the park- Milkfest! there were hundreds of people dressed all in white (you got in free if wearing white) in the gardens with some wierd performance art going on. What were all these people doing there, they didn´t even sell beer there, just milk, yoghurt, fruit and wine and cheese. More thumbnails ...
