After a week in Punta Gorda we were ready to move on to look for possibilities of snorkeling without long boat ride.  Took a day trip to Guatemala before we left Punta Gorda.  Would not recommend that unless you take tour or speak Spanish.  Little English spoken even by taxi drivers.  Took bus from Punta Gorda to Placencia and had three great days at Placencia.  Would recommend the Paradise Hotel.  On the water but not beach access right there.  Was very conducive to walking short distances to the beach where you could use chairs, visit beach side bars for some good food.  We enjoyed some lazy time there but weather was not too good.  Had some rain and winds made boat rides wild.  Did a snorkeling trip with beach barbecue for $60.  Food was great with snorkeling fair.  Fish seen were typical Caribbean as I have seen in American Virgin Islands.  Moved on because our room was booked so again went by bus to Dangria.  Were a little disappointed when we arrived in Dangria.  Town pretty dreary from the limited amount we saw.   Was raining.  Walked short distance to Pal's to a very small room with only cold water.  It was clean!  People were nice and helpful.  Close to beach but dreary and not a spot you would want to sit of swim at.  Only close place to eat was Chinese.  They had good cable TV so we watched a couple of recent movies then back on to bus in AM and on to Belize City.
The bus station is Belize City you get off and the market is right outside.  Apparently this is not too safe an area.  A woman taxi driver took us touring the city looking for hotel.  She finally convinced us to take water taxi to San Pedro where she described nice beaches and relaxed time.  She was right on.  We me a very nice retired Dr. from Mo. on water taxi.  He gave us suggestions on places to stay and eat and was right on.  We spent first night at Lily's upstairs with great balcony for watching the beach.  This was right in town.  Place was okay, but over priced.  We then moved on to Caribbean Villas which I would highly recommend.  It was nicer there, had Internet available and service was good.  Had great snorkeling out to preserve where there were lots of rays, some big green Moray eels and huge Grouper.  Food was good at multiple places and I enjoyed shopping and rum punches.  Left for home after three days on Sandro.
In summary would recommend Belize for good bus transportation, friendly people and warm climate.
