Buon Giorno from Italia!
After many, many hours in the sky (and in the airports) we finally arrived at our destination. We flew from Nashville to DC to Frankfurt to Florence.
This afternoon we strolled through Montecatini Terme - a bellissimo Tuscan spa town. We hit the local marketplace, checked out some of the local spas (it's still low-tourist season, so they were all closed) and had some fabulous caffe y pastries at a local pasticceria.
Our hotel is fantastic, there is a beautiful open staircase, frescos on the walls and ceilings, and the cutest little purse lamps.
We met the other tourists in the tour group and had a delicious five-course meal of antipasti, cereal soup, spinach and cheese ravioli, pork scalopini and fried potatoes, ensalada, and the BEST EVER tiramisu. Oh, and great local vino as well!
We also had the fortunate experince of sharing our table with our tour guide, David. David, helped plan this tour many years ago and has led it some 50 times. He lives right near the Vatican in Roma and claims the Pope as his neighbor. He shared many fun tidbits about the sites, and we have high hopes for learning lots and lots about the history and local culture.
Tomorrow we have a full day planned in Florence.
