Koreans are huge on looking great... in their minds. They follow the latest fashions (I think they are inspired from Japan or maybe Mars... not quite decided yet). Everyone has to own the latest and most popular clothes. It is not uncommon to see friends wearing identical outfits. The American concept of fashion is to separate you and make yourself an individual. However in Korea the concept is to be one with your country and best friends. This can't be better illustrated than by what us foreigners affectionately call "couple shirts." It seems that it is the most romantic thing in young Koreans minds to go out shopping and dress the same as your boyfriend/girlfriend. Also men have to carry their own purse, plus their girlfriends.

One other phenomenon in Korea is the men...who dress like women. The men dress just as sparkly, with as many accessories and styled hair as the women. The only thing that separates them is that the men don't wear skirts and high heels. The Korean Boy Bands epitomize this. To me, some of them actually look like women because they are so well taken care of and feminine in their fashion and look. In Maxim, there was an article titled "Gay Or Asian?." This inspired us to take some shots to illustrate that point.

All of the photos above were shot by Sung Koko, my Korean American friend. We took them with our best version of stealth-super-sly-detective style. Of course that didn't work too well, so some are blurred. Have a couple laughs and just be glad that you don't have to shop at stores that only sell clothes like these!
