Another big difference is that Port Douglas isn't located on the mud flats like Cairns - it has a beach, a four mile long one to be exact
No one can go swimming in the summer in North Queensland. Why you be asking you self - it's because of the killer, microscopic jelly fish. No joke. There are two kinds and they are both about an inch long and multiple stings are either excruciatingly painful or deadly. So in all of the four mile long beach there was only a 100 metre long bit where one could go swimming. This is because they set up massive nets to protect people. I had some friendly jelly fish stings in Mozambique and preferred not to try my luck here and just swam in the salt water pool at the backpackers (every lodging has a salt water pool due to these little devils.)
So normally I bet this is a pretty quiet town with people going out to the reef, eating slow luxurious dinners and getting sun burnt. However something has shaken the town up - Hollywood. Thats right the day after I arrived some fellow Americans decided to take over the town. They would be Matthew Maconehay and Kate Hudson. They are filming some romantic comedy and have caused mass hysteria in the town with people going out to they bars all night just to catch a glimpse. Since the town basically only has one drag and it takes 20 minutes at a leisurely pace to walk all of it this is highly likely. So keep your eyes open for a movie with them - I was there.
I figured there was one too many Americans in that town so I headed farther north to Cape Trib. On the way we passed the spot where Steve Irwin tragically died. (I won't touch on this topic because it should have been an email in itself). Just thought I'd include the photo of the island from afar since this is all about Hollywood. Sorry no pics of Matt or Kate.
