Wow! I just had a great weekend over at a friend's house. Meg lives over in Vartinek which is a village outside of the city (town, whatever) of Martuny which is on the southern edge of Lake Sevan. She has the entire lower part of the house and we sat and watched movies all day yesterday and ate M&M's and junk until we were sick and also made quasidillas for lunch with GODA cheese! Oh my god that was so good! It was the closest thing I have had to a grilled cheese sandwich since... hmmm.... maybe a year ago. Hmm. Yup that's about right. Meg has a tv, a computer that plays movies and a small hand held little thing that you can watch movies on as well. We watched The Incredibles on this tiny little screen that I swear was maybe five inches diagonally. On top of that.. it was the widescreen version. So, there we were, bundled up in our warmest clothes and hats on (because she doesn't have heat in her place yet) and sitting on chairs at her table shivering and laughing at the absurdity of it all!! It was FANTASTIC!! I know I haven't been talking about the culture yet. I am sorry for that. I promise I will start doing that soon. Especially in January because they celebrate Christmas for at least 2 weeks. sometimes the entire month! Next weekend, it looks like I will be going to a Halloween party and then the weekend after that.. I have to buy a new winter coat! My current coat was fine for Uzbekistan but won't be good enough for here. And maybe some new boots because the boots I bought last were are all cracked on one side from my Tashkent host mother putting them by the furnace to dry off last winter. OH! It snowed for the first time in Vartenik this weekend. That was great! We walked around like the locals carrying our umbrellas to keep the snow off of us. and I saw cow heads and legs advertising that the butchers had fresh meat. I hadn't seen that since Bukhara. That was kinda nice to see. I know, sick. But, nice. Take care everyone! Laura

Promise to respond more frequently.
dear Laura,

I promise, obiecuje, to write, napisac, to you from now on. Have been so damn busy and I am retired so you figure!

Don't talk about snow yet. I love it as in skiing and then getting the hell out of the mts to sun and warmth.

We do fly to the Pacific Coast of Mexico this weekend for a week. Have to keep the tan from the Nevada trip , LOL.

Keep us posted. Oh, I signed the guest book on a former post from you.

Cow's head and legs-interesting advertising.

Take care .
