This is tough!! I nearly ET (early terminated) today. Little did I know that my fellow former UZ-18 volunteer here in Armenia, HAD ET'd!! Luckily I was able to have a pizza with him, a beer and some cognac before he headed back to Yerevan and then he will head on back to Minnesota. You little shit, zack!! :) But, I have said that enough for now. It is really tough for me to stay. It isn't that I miss America. It is that I am mentally tired!! All the adminstrative BS again. Having to learn another language. NOT being understand!! Not being able to stop a marshutney. Although, I will give Zack's method a try of just tapping the driver on the shoulder when I wanna stop. OH! And as a parting gift, Zack showed me where the fast internet place is in Vanadzor. So, it is a little easier to stay in touch now. I am definately not alone in not being able to stay. I had heard from my fellow UZ-18 Tamar who is in El Salvador now. She is an inspiration for living and working abroad and now she is having doubts about the peace corps. The people here are wonderful!! Both the Armenians, and the Americans. I love my host family. They are very nice to me! Yesterday I went to a birthday party and was drinking with the men in the family. Then, part of the living room floor became a dance floor and I kept being pulled out there by this very good looking man. Always nice to have happen. I desperately wanted to at least wash my hair this morning but was unable to because my host mother is making cheese in the bathtub. Last time I was unable to take a shower it was because wool was being cleaned in the bathtub. I don't know what else to say today. Everyday that I stay here it is a struggle and a victory. I don't want to live in America yet but I am having a difficult time learning another language and another alphabet. Well, I have the alphabet basicaly learned. I am just getting tired of feeling like a moron when I speak. Six months of that sorta drains on you. Before I ran into Zack, my friend Kelsey had convinced me to stay. She said we have to get through PST and then we are supposed to go to Georgia to visit Caroline and Travis. I honestly don't know if I will make it. Sigh!! And of course, last week while I was thinking these things while sitting on my language teachers front steps waiting for her to show up for a tutoring session, I also thought, well, that ain't something you see everyday in america as four cows walked by, and then a group of chickens and then a couple of kids with a donkey and a bunch of wood on the donkeys back and then a man and a horse and a sow and her piglets. Yup, definately in a village. Well, I made it through another day. take care everyone!! Laura

Peace Corps (reply)

It seems to me that the Peace Corps could assist more organizationally the new Peace Corps volunteers. It seems to me they are thrown out in a country and told to sink or swim. This is not a good way to learn to swim in my opinion.
