This will be a bit of a short message because a group of trainees are heading off to a bookstore. Yup, I am in Toshkent. Woohoo!! I went to a birthday party this week. (YEAH BOBO!!) It was for Callie's host-grandfather's 79th birthday. He sat with 9 volunteers eating and drinking and not knowing a word of english. He only has 7 teeth left but that man can make a really nice bottle of wine. Yes, he grows his own grapes and makes his own wine. Wow! that was some strong wine. :) Everytime Bobo's name was mentioned (bobo is Grandfather is Uzbek) we would all raise our glasses and yell "yeah bobo!!" he loved it. This week we find out where we are going to be placed. We are also going to be sent out to visit current volunteers. So, if you don't hear from me next week, that is why. I am hoping for Saamarkand, Bukhara, or Uganch. Those three cities have medical schools in them and there are three volunteers who are specifically going to work with curriculum development as a main project. I really really want to help with curiculum development as a secondary project and Bois (the project manager) said he would keep that in mind when placing me. Keep your fingers crossed!! One little comment about pit toilets and toilet paper: Todays lesson, tomorrow's toilet paper. Nice, eh? Take care! Laura
