Many years ago racing friends of ours introduced us to Oval Racing, because we are brought up with Circuits, it takes a while to understand and appreciate Ovals, but there will be more overtaking in one lap of tomorrows Nascar Race than probably an entire Formula 1 season.

So today for the first time having followed it on TV for two years, we are off to Talledaga Superspeedway, in Alabama.

Caroline and I have split allegiances in our drivers.  Caroline supports Carl Edwards in the Aflec Car, he has had a mixed season after contesting the championship last year and so far this year hasn't won a race,

I have followed Juan Pablo Montoya from Formula 1 to Nascar, the Columbian, is one of the few Circuit Racers who have made it into Nascar and the first Non American to make it into the Nascar Sprint Cup Chase.  Joining Carl Edwards.  JPM spent two seasons crashing into things, nothing survived his Columbian temper (apart from the safety car).  This year he has been driving with his head and hasn't failed to finish a race.

As soon as we got downstairs, we could see the weather was going to be against us, virtually all the way to the circuit it rained, however, little could we expect a Police Escort into the track, two Police Motor cycles, led us in for the last 5 miles, with junctions cleared off and we were rushed in, cars had to pull to the side of the road, and people waved.  The most obscure moment of my life.

The Circuit is massive, the Sister track to the Daytona circuit, which Caroline and I have been fortunate enough to do the Daytona 24 hour race at as crew.  We started by collecting our Sprint View headsets,  these are little Screens which allow you to see the TV, look at the stats, replay incidents and listen to the drivers talking to their pits, something I think F1 could learn from.  Then  off to get our programme and finally and importantly our Caps.

Qualifying was unfortunately rained off, so as I write we haven't as yet seen a Nascar running on the Track, but luckily the Truck series race did happen and there was a couple of wrecks.  Kyle Bush finally won, lets just say he's not the local hero - and the fans will not be happy if he wins come race day.

Finally back to the coach and another Police Escort out of the circuit,

Just a few pictures from today.

Love Caroline & Les xxx
