Yes, we celebrated our third anniversary at Platvice Lakes NP. We had taken an over night bus to Zagreb where we caught a bus to the NP. We arrived about 10 am to the entrance of the park. We had a celebratory coffee (we could not let our Sarajevo tradition go just yet), and then headed on our hike.

The park is great...very well marked, nicely kept up with trash bins, a ride on a boat across one of the lakes, wooden walk ways over the lakes, and free toilets! It was a bit crowded, but what do you expect for a great NP? You can walk along long or short paths around the waterfalls and lakes. Of course, in Shaffner style, we took the longer of them...but not the longest. We ended the hike with a nice picnic under a tree along the largest lake.

We stayed in a private accommodation for the night. Basically, a room of someone's home. This woman was so nice. We ended up having the place to ourselves for our anniversary night! Cool! We were about 1 km from the only restaurant open, but it made for nice walk for dinner. We even got to lay out on her couches and watch some English tv. It was Full House, but hey...at least we understood what they were saying!

We caught the 11 am bus back to Zagreb to head to Bled, Slovenia. From Zagreb, you could definitely do Platvice in a day trip...no doubt. However, we also recommend the private accommodations for a break from the hectic pace.

We are in love with Tuna sandwiches right now. We have had them for 2 days in a row...and could probably do it for much longer! Funny how you find something that tastes like home and you just keep eating it.
