We had a small drive to Lindau which is on Lake Constance (Badensee), and we got there around six. The information center was not open, but there was a cool information booth with a phone and map that were computer driven. We were able to find a room for the night pretty easily. Thankfully, we went to the one we did because we had a treat of an apple orchard right by us!
The receptionist was so nice to give us suggestions for dinner. She said we could walk to a few different places in 10 to 15 minutes. Well, we must not have walked as fast as others...because it took us about 20 minutes to find Gaucho's, a Mexican restaurant in a village nearby. Jim was a little worried that we might be going the wrong way...but we did finally make it. PHEW! The dinner was a fun night of conversation and pretty good fajitas too. The walk back did not seem nearly as far either!
The next morning, Dad took us on a tour of the apple orchard harvesting he had seen on his early morning walk. It was so cool to see the apples on the trees and men were actually picking them
Finally, we walked around the island where the Alstadt (old town) before leaving the quaint city.
JUDY'S ADDITIONS
10 a.m. Hi there...I am on Layton and Jana's computer now...no internet in our hotel...will go to an internet cafe to send later...We are in Lindau, Germany and will see over into Swizerland when we go over to a little island today...There's a neat lighthouse there. The sun is shining today - hooray! There are 200 days of rain a year in the Salzburg area...we were there for two of them! We didn't go to Eagles Nest, one of Hitler's homes because the lady at the hotel told us we weren't going to be able to see the view because of the clouds.
They had several kinds of bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, cereals, oj, sweet rolls, and along with the jellies there was that wonderful chocolate for breakfast in Salzburg!
We've enjoyed the drives so much...again, the green lush countryside with the yellow stucco houses or the white ones with the brown trim with flower boxes...more fat cows...we saw some black sheep...some chickens...a couple of places where they had pumpkin stands...and the conversations in the car have been great...the best sharing takes place at mealtimes...fun stuff!
We drove on west on the Autobahn part of the way and on the little country roads that we enjoy so much to Landau, Germany where we found Frederick Schafferstrasse (street),,,looked very similar to the name Frederick Shaffner!! Layton had found me a cloth map earlier in the day that had both Bern and Basel towns where we know Heinrich Schaffner went!
We asked at our hotel about a restaurant and walked to a great Mexican Restaurant 20 minutes away...delicious food!!
The sun is out today and Jim saw apples being harvested really close on his walk...
