Now, first of all, let us tell you that Bamberg is a SMALL town...however, we got REALLY lost. We could find our way on the map but then roads would be closed and we would have to go another direction....we got lost multiple times trying to find the "i" for the information office. Finally, Jana got fed up with the directions and streets and said to "just pull over at the next hotel." We did and of course, they were full...BUT the lady was nice enough to help us find another place with two rooms (one triple and one double). The real challenge was actually FINDING the hotel...Jim and Jana got out of the car and walked to the hotel. We had to ask once where to go as we were walking...but we made it! PHEW! The receptionist was SO nice too...she helped us find our way to the rooms and then to find a parking spot in their garage.
That night we had a great dinner in a neat restaurant where we got to sample the "smoked beer" which Bamberg is famous for. It was nice to be somewhere again with all five of us together. Our rooms faced the street where LOTS of people were partying and was really, really loud, but everyone seemed to be able to sleep through it or go right back to sleep...thankfully!
The next morning we needed to put our luggage in the car so we could check out. So, we all carried our bags down to the garage. As we were coming back up, Jim did not know there was a step and started to lose his balance...he ended up catching himself on the wall...with a glass picture! The cuts were not bad, but he was bleeding pretty badly. Jana led him to the WC (bathroom) so he would not drip blood everywhere. Then, a lady from the hotel brought a first aid kit. She was amazing. She was wrapping up each finger with great precision and fury...meanwhile, she was talking, talking and talking (in German of course)...we are not exactly sure what she was saying but she was a GREAT help! She even gave us some extra bandages for later. Jim wanted to call her friend.....we tried to say Danke many, many times!
After all the excitement, we walked up to the DOM (cathedral) where we were lucky enough to attend a free organ concert. The concert was mostly classical stuff and we all wanted them to play hymns instead! Then, we roamed around the old town for bit longer before heading out for more fun driving time.
