Now, this place is really cool....a bit crouded with cruise ship tours, but still very cool. We were both surprised that the population was only about 50,000 people. We thought it was going to be bigger.

Dubrovnik did not let us down. Just like lots of other Eastern Europe cities, there is a nice wall built around the Old Town. The streets are of course narrow and no cars are allowed in Old Town which adds to the atmosphere.

The first day we did lots of wandering and taking in the cafe life. We stayed true to the European schedule..nap, late lunch around 2 pm, walk around, nap, walk around some more, dinner around 8:30 or 9 pm. All day, we had heard of a great pizza place called Mea Culpa and we had not seen it anywhere. Layton found a barber to give him his 4th haircut of the trip. This one cost more than all three of the others combined! He paid around $10 for this one and $8.50 total for the other three in India, Thailand, and China! SO cool! FINALLY, as we were walking back to our apartment, we found it! Such a fun feeling to find places you have been looking for all day (but did not have an address.) We had some awesome lasagne and pizza.

Our second day we did lots of climbing old streets in Old Town
old streets in Old Town
. We climbed up to the cross which took lots of stairs and 14 switchbacks to get there. The veiw was totally worth it though and we really like the hikes. We had a bit of lunch and took our regular siesta before heading to the city wall. This goes all the way around the city. The most shocking thing to see was the repaired roofs from where the city was bombed in 1991 by Serbia. They say that 70% of Dubrovnik's buildings were hit. So crazy for a city to have been around since the 7th century and still fighting wars for independence in 1991. These types of situations remind us as Americans that we have lots to be thankful for.

RANDOM:

We stayed in an apartment really close to the Place or Stadun (the main street in Old Town) which was a great location. We found out the family of the lady that runs the apartments has lived in Dubrovnik for five centruies! YIKES! 500 years in one city! How many Americans can say that?

Cokes are expensive here...like $3 for a 500 ml. Water is a bit pricier too..around $2. Wine is cheap though..$2.50 for a glass. NICE!
