Man O Man O Man! Greece continues to be cool, AND we get to spend awesome time with the Cabanas kids. We spent a LONG ferry ride from Rhodes to Santorini. We left Rhodes at 1 am and got to Santorini at 9 pm the following day! Almost 24 hours of ferry time for the Shaffners. However, it was a nice boat and we had beds to rest in which was super nice. Layton had to stay in the boys rooms and Jana had to stay in the girls rooms. We both got a good night sleep and were able to nap again during the day. We both needed the forced R&R time.
We stayed at Saint George's for one night before moving to Anny's Studios where we waited to the Cabanas kids to arrive. Layton was able to negotiate a ride to our hotel for 5 euros which was half of what they originally wanted us to pay. GO Layton! We used the time for emailing and getting caught up on things before Alex and Heather arrived. We stayed at Perrisa beach which is on the south east side of the island which was a fun location
Heather and Alex had the ability to email us from Alex's blackberry so we knew that they had made it to Athens. We also found out they had unfortunately lost a bag on the journey. Thankfully, it was not things they really "needed" for the trip (beach towels, flip flops, and sun screen). However, they were super disappointed because it had the stuff they were bringing for us! We could have cared less...we were just so excited to see them. When we were sitting in the lobby of the hotel, we saw them walk in...what a great sight! So great to see them!
Our time in Santorini was great. We were able to just sit around and talk for hours but also had things we could do too. We took buses to Fira, the capital of Santorini, to have a drink and take in the scenery. It is hard walking in Greece. Lots of marble cobblestones and streets that were straight up! Heather had a small spill on our way up to a cafe in Fira! Phew...we don't need that to happen again. She was fine but man, she hit her knee hard!
We spent the rest of the afternoon sipping on cool drinks and hanging out. Lots of cruise boats come to the islands so it provides many hours of people watching which we did plenty of
That evening, we took a dip in the pool...and Alex stubbed his toe...HARD on the side of the pool. He toughed it out, but we don't need our guests to hurt themselves anymore! We had a fun dinner that evening of Moussaka, greek salads and Stifado which is a beef dish that tasted like roast. YUM!
We also took a day trip while we were in Santorini. We left about 10 am to go to the port to get in a big motorized sail boat. We made it to the volcano island where we climbed to the top even though it was HOT! Really hot! However, we were then able to cool off by diving into the sea for a dip and swim to some "hot springs", even though they were not that hot. The swim was a highlight of the day, no doubt. They then took us to Thirasia, another small island, where we had a long lunch. Our final destination for the day was Oia, the sunset place as they call it. We had about four hours there to chill out and watch the sunset. This is where all the pictures are taken...or at least most of them. Here we found the white buildings and blue domes to take some great photos. There were LOTS of people watching the sunset. We felt like we were at a concert with the amount of people flooding in the one area of the island. Also, after the sun set, the small pedestrian streets would have a traffic jam
We left Santorini on an 11:50 am ferry to Mykonos. The area at the port was absolute madness. We took a picture to try to show all the people, cars and boats trying to stay on schedule. AMAZING! At one gate on the port, there were two boats taking off within five minutes of each other. Insanity!
RANDOM:
Alex and Heather did get the bag they lost! We stopped to get it at the airport on our way to the port. Whooo hooo! It was Christmas in August! Thanks A & H! We have clean ears because of you and LOTS of fun reading material!
People are ALL about the glam here. Everyone has on fancy glasses, cute dresses, and perfect fingernails and toenails. No small thing is overlooked and if they don't like the perfect outfit they have on, they tend to buy another one to replace it!

Let us introduce the CABANAS KIDS!
. Crazy! We had a really fun view for dinner that night and had great salads! (Greece is still 2nd in the salads race, but they are still great! just not as good as Bulgaria.)
