We took an overnight train for a few days in Chiang Mai to have a change of atmosphere, catch a temple we didn't see last time we were in Chiang Mai, AND so Jana could attend a massage course. She attended two all-day classes on Saturday and Sunday to learn oil massage therapy. Jana really enjoyed the class at Spa Mantra. She and Anthoula (a Greek woman) learned how to perform a 1 to 1.5 hour massage. Layton had fun exploring more of the city while Jana was in class.
We also had an ALL WESTERN FOOD WEEKEND. We both were craving hamburgers, french fries, MEXICAN FOOD, and anything that reminded us of home. So, we indulged and ate only western food the whole weekend. Yes, we did find a great Mexican food place called Miguel's. The salsa was amazing. We would have ranked Miguel's salsa with some of the top restaurants in Big D! Someone knew what they were doing.
On Friday night, we went to a Thai boxing match where we saw 7 fights. Let's just say that all of the weight catagories were smaller than Jana! YIKES! It was still super entertaining and interesting. These guys could really kick and punch each other with great power. They also had some traditional dances/warm-ups that were interesting to watch during the breaks.
We ventured through the Sunday market before jumping on the overnight train back to Bangkok. You will see some fun pics of food from this. Layton and I both tried a small ball of chicken meat, spring rolls, corn cut off the cob (they wanted to put condensed milk on it!), and fried chicken which was heavenly. Our fav was a ball of coconut and peanut mixture wrapped in leaves and grilled. Not sure what it was called but it was freakin' good.
RANDOM FACT: We counted eight 7-11 stores on our 30 minute walk from the Night Market area to our guest house on Saturday night. They are on every corner!

Markets in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai's markets are really worth to be seen, especially the Walking Streets on Saturday and Sunday. Descriptions of the markets, when they take place and how you get there, you find here: http://my-lanna.blogspot.com/2008/03/chiang-mai-markets.html
