Halong Bay is a body of water on the border of China and 170 km east of Hanoi. The name means "Bay of the Desending Dragon." The bay consists of about 2,000 limestone islands topped with think jungle vegetation. We hopped on a "junk" or boat for two days. We estimated there were about 100 other boats in the bay with us...it was a VERY popular thing for tourists to do. We took off for a cave system called Hang Dau Go which was found in the 19th century. It was pretty cool to see the three different chambers and much larger than any caves we have visited so far on the trip.
Then, we moared the boat and some people went for a kayak trip while we decided to go for a swim. Layton ended up swimming a VERY long way! Jana followed him SLOWLY and did not make it the whole way before Layton made the return trip back. We both enjoyed the exercise though. Finally, we had to take a few jumps off the top of the boat! Great fun!
