We spent about 8 hours on the boat riding down the Mekong. It was a slow long boat so we had time to read, rest, eat, read some more...we made a stop to have children come aboard to sell us Pringles and chips. Pretty crazy to see Pringles in the middle of nowhere. After lunch, we made another stop at a Hmong hillside village. It was very small and very poor. Most of the kids were lucky to have a shirt on, but they still had beautiful smiles. The Laos people are so genuine with their smiles!
We made it to Pakbeng which is a very sleepy town...very sleepy. The electricity only works from 6 pm to 11 pm. So, our night of sleep was a bit stuffy, but it was only for one night! We took a walk through town where of course they had a market and a wat to see. (what town doesn't?) The market was small, but they were cooking up bull horn stew! You will see the picture of a pot with two horns sticking out! YUCK! After our walk, we went to dinner and then off to bed since there was not much else going on.
