We had lunch at a great place called Winnie Bagoe's. The pizza and beer, an NZ beer called Tui, hit the spot. You will see some pictures of this dining experience. We sat on a porch with wonderful sunlight and view. You could see a gondola to the top of Bob's Peak
. At the top, people paraglide off the top which is really cool to watch people glide down to the town. Mean while, there are sail boats, jet boats, speed boats and tour boats coming and going....talk about great entertainment! We walked around town, visited the gardens (Layton even thought this was pretty cool), and had some ice cream. It was such a relaxing day, but there was plenty to watch and observe. For those that don't know, New Zealand is a mecca for adventure sports or adrenaline activities...bungy, sky diving, hand gliding, and much more...it was hard to not want to join in, but it is PRICEY in Queenstown. So, we chose to just take in the scenery. It is hard though because we both like to challenge ourselves. Layton has bungy jumped before and hand glided here in Queenstown...so the next step up would be sky diving. I am not sure we were ready for that yet.
Our pictures hopefully help put some idea of the beauty of this town to reality, but it won't really. Let's be honest...however, it is everything in one package, great adventure place in the summer, a great little ski town in the Winter, beautiful all year round!
Wow...oh wow. Layton has always said that Queenstown was his favorite place when he visited New Zealand and Australia with his parents in 1998 (as well as one of his favorite places he's ever visited). Well, the outcome from those high expectations were not dissapointed. We flew into Queenstown around noon. The way the airlines have to land is very indirect but it gave us a wonderul birdseye view of the surroundings. Queenstown is surrouned by mountains, the Remarkables and another mountain range, and encompasses a lake. Let's just say...it is incredible. The Shaffners will be coming back here.
