This was a must do in many of the books we read and people we talked to...it was FUN! The only bad thing is we have NO pictures because they won't let you take your cameras (it causes the glow worms to stop shining!) The town is nothing to talk about but it is sitting on an underground cave system and streams. You can check out the website to see what we are talking about at: http://www.waitomo.co.nz. We did the Tumu Tumu Toobing trip.

Our tour started in a barn, just like home! In the barn, they had wetsuits and helmets with light for us to wear. After gearing up we had to walk about 400 meters to the entrance and it was about 33 C (which is ~92 F). Those wetsuits were WARM to say the least.

When we got into the caves it was craziness. We walked, swam, tubed, squeezed, and crawled our way through the caves for about 2 hours. We both really enjoyed it. Jana thought she might be a bit nervous in some parts but she really enjoyed the entire trip.

The glow worms were something else. If you have not seen them before, you should google them. They cannot get rid of their waste so they "glow" it out of themselves! Seriously! Our guide liked to call it shining SH-T! Funny stuff. They made the ceiling of the caves look like a night sky with green stars. Sometimes we would all turn off our lights and just enjoy the darkness.
