Chile's biggest tourist attraction is Torres del Paine National Park....  Initially, we wanted to do their "W" trek which took 4-5 days to hike, but unfortunately we just didn't have the time to do  it...  we spent one day trekking and one day taking the "Japanese" photo tour.  Seriously, that is the way they described it because they drive you around and dump you out to take pics.

The first day was much more interesting than the second.  We did a trek of almost 19 km...with two great guys from Germany.  They really were a hoot.  The first 2.5 hours was pretty mild...we were feeling super confident in our trekking abilities.  Until we saw the mountain of bolders and rocks we had to acccend for about 45 minutes and there was not an "easy" path.  We made it and had a turkey sandwich as our reward.  It was cold but the wind was not too strong to make it miserable.  We then had to make our way back the same way...can we tell you that we like going up even more than coming down...knees and backs start to hurt after a few hours of pounding.  The Germans went ahead of us and bought us some beers as a reward.

The second day was in a mini van with 3 guys from Finland, our guide who was from Poland (lived in Chile for 4 years) that spoke French, Spanish and some English.  We did a ton of guessing words and finishing sentences.  You will see our is a cool place to visit.  The wind could HOWL though...sometimes we had to squat down so we would not be blown over!
