Anyone travelling to Vegas who hates flying (like me) be aware that there is some pretty rough turbulance as you near the Vegas air port- going from the cooler coast to the heat of the desert creates an air buffer zone which had me chomping down Serapax like they were Tic-Tacs
We went straight to the STARDUST casino, checked in (our room is big, clean, has a fantastic view and is inexpensive :-) ), and then hit the town. The weather is very much like Brisbane in the summer, but without the humidity so don't forget the sunscreen if you come here on holiday.
Started off by walking up to the Wynn casino (bit of a bore on the inside, but the outside looks interesting, even if the lawn IS Astro Turf). From there we walked up to the Venetzia. Everything in Vegas is about being big, flamboyant and tacky but who could think that tacky could look so FABULOUS!! The Venetzia is AMAZING- you can take a gondola ride on the canal which flows through the casino. Vegas is such a visual place- everywhere you look, something is happening.
If you get a bit tired of walking everywhere, you can pay $3 to catch the airconditioned monorail and it stops at every major casino.
We caught the monorail up to MGM GRAND and then walked along the street to a building with a huge Coca-Cola bottle as its' entrance where you can get very cheap tickets for most of the Vegas shows. Bought our tickets for La Cage (most renowned drag show in Vegas and highly recommend anyone to see it- very funny, and the impersonaters were incredible).
Was a great day. Lawrie has already managed to break two poker machines (one in the first five minutes of checking in- must be some kind of record :-) ).
Had lots of fun already, and it's only our first day!!
