A fun drive from Houston to South Padre always includes a stop at Rock Port.  This is Harbor and Light House
Harbor and Light House
a quaint old town with a picturesque harbor.  It is a popular cruising destination for the itinerant sailor.  I always enjoy stopping there and checking out the boats along the water way.

From Rock Port I made my way south to Aransas Pass.  This time I decided to take the ferry to Port Aransas, as it has been 20 years since I saw it last.  I have avoided this tourist Aransas Pass Ship Wreck

attraction because the wait for the ferry is often an ordeal.

This time, they had a lot of ferry boats running and the wait was only a few minutes.  So was the crossing.

It takes about 10 minutes.  You have to wonder why they don't build a bridge.  I am sure they have their reasons. New Friends Made on the Ferry

Virginias is a great place to have a tonic and relax by the marina.  It was the first place I could stop and get out of the traffic, so I was a happy camper to find it.

The drive from Port Aransas to Corpus Christy is mildly interesting.  The coast is mostly out of view, lost behind condos and R.V. parks.  Still, anything along the coast is refreshing for me.
