If you find out I am crazy, though, don't tell me. Maybe I will never know!
A few years ago my world was coming apart.

My other half of 26 years had passed away. I was using substances in excess and unhealthy behavior to cover all of the pain. I was a lost sole, my world was empty and I was wishing god would take me from this world.
Somehow god brought me to a Spanish speaking 12 step program. I say god brought me because really, I did not speak Spanish. After a year of bitter tears and repairing of the pain I had caused others, I encountered a spiritual awakening.
Life has really changed for me since then. I feel alive, I have a direction and that empty hole within is now gone. The scars are starting to heal and it is to do something for someone else besides me.
Robin Wrote a Book Called "The Dove"
There is a famous story in boaing circles, the story of Robin Lee Graham and his 24 foot sloop the "Dove". This is a story of a 16 year old boy, who despite parental objections, decided to circumnavigate the worl. National Geographic Magazine sponsored Robin. The articles in the magazine provided fodder for the imagination of generations of young people wanting to follow in Robin's footsteps.
The Profile
The trip started in California and many of us, including me, anxioulsy awaited each issue. Robin had lots of adventures, including a period of severe depression after this tiny 23 foot boat became too small. This is a story of a young person coming of age more than it is about the adventures of sailing around the world. Coming of age is so difficult for some of us, you have to wonder which adventure is the bigger challenge! For some of us, sailing around the world pales in comparason.

It took Robin 2 years to make it around the world. In the process he found the woman of his dreams and married her. He also sold the Dove mid trip, and bought a new boat, "The Return of Dove".

I knew I had to go sailing after reading about Robin's adventures. It is like I have a list of things to do before I die, and extended cruising is one of them. I told mom about my plans. I was 12 at the time. Her first answer was "no!" Her second answer was, "wait until after college". Of course she knew, there would be student loans to repay, a career path to follow and I would be too worried about life's problems to think about foolish adventures.
Too keep me satisfied, mom and dad let me buy my own boat . Mine was a "Flying Junior". She was designed for coastal racing. They are a fast boat and famous for turning upside down. We call that "turtling". We used to joke about how sailing with Tim was really a swimming lesson in disguise!

The Flying Junior was a great boat to learn on. One of my first lessons was how to turn her back over when she was firmly upside down!
I never lived my dream. Instead, I got lost in coming of age. I got lost in substances. I got lost in excuses and money and power and things. By the time I got to the program I was a 12 year old kid living in a 45 year old's body. What my spiritual awakening has taught me is, God wants me to live my dreams.
That is what this traveloge is all about. Living a dream. I am not sure a circumnavigation is in the cards. However, I should be able to ply the waters of the Caribbean, maybe even make it to Guatemala or Panama. In the process, I hope to meet many new people, to pass the word to others who suffer from addiction, and practice the principles of this new way of life in all my affairs.
Maybe you are an arm chair traveler, as the blog hosts kindly suggest. Please give us your hearts and your minds and your points of view. Others of you will want to join me in spirit and in body. I have learned, I am not alone, nor can I do this alone.

With luck the trips starts Early in 2008. We depart Galveston Texas for Veracruz and points South in Mexico. Once there we will travel to various cities, including Mexico City, D.F. as it is called, and a few points in-between. We will bring books and literature to communities where there are none. We will learn and laugh and practice what our new life has taught us.
After Mexico, our travels take us to other parts of the Caribbean, maybe even to Central America. The Rio Dulce in Guatemala is enchanting. Who knows, the winds and God have a plan. It will be fun to see what it is.

¿Por qué alguien vendería la granja y acaba de lanza lejos una carrera para ir a cruzar en un barco de la vela de 37 pies?

Después de que un año de rasgones amargos y reparación del dolor hubiera causado otros, encontré un despertar espiritual. La vida realmente ha cambiado para mí desde entonces.
Me siento vivo, tengo una dirección y ese agujero vacío dentro ahora se va. Las cicatrices están comenzando a curar y es hacer algo para algún otro además de mí.

Sabía que tuve que ir a navegar después de leer sobre las aventuras del Robin. Es como tengo una lista de las cosas a hacer antes de que muera, y el cruzar ampliado es una de ellas.
Dije a mamá sobre mis planes. Era 12 en ese entonces. Su primera respuesta era "no!" Su segunda respuesta era, "espera hasta después de universidad". Nunca viví mi sueño. En lugar, conseguí perdido en venir de la edad. Conseguí perdido en sustancias. Conseguí perdido en excusas y dinero y poder y las bellezas materiales. Para el momento en que consiguiera al programa era un cabrito de 12 años que vivía en el cuerpo de los 45 años.

Con suerte los viajes comienzan temprano en 2008. Salimos Galveston Tejas para Veracruz y los puntos del sur en México. Una vez que allí viajemos a las varias ciudades, incluyendo Ciudad de México, a DF. como se llama, y algunos puntos mientras tanto.
Traeremos los libros y la literatura a las comunidades donde no hay ninguno. Aprenderemos y reiremos y practicaremos lo que nos ha enseñado nuestra nueva vida. Después de México, nuestros recorridos nos llevan a otras partes del Caribe, igualan quizá a América Central. El Río Dulce en Guatemala es encantador. Quién sabe, los vientos y el dios tienen un plan. Será diversión para ver cuáles es.
