This morning we motored off to a further location in a smaller boat, leaving the golfing Aussies behind as they were on a one-night cruise. The bigger boat took them back and picked up 3 Dutch that were also doing just one night and we would meet before dinner when we returned.
The area we went to on the smaller boat had fewer tourists and we popped into the kayaks and went through some cave and paddled around some of the rock islands. THen it was back for a swim, 8 course (now familiar) lunch, and another kayak. This time we saw a bunch of monkeys in the trees on an island. Didn't see goats on another (that we were told sometimes had them). Saw a lot of hawks. Paddled through caves and into hidden lagoons...it was great. Another swim and then back to the boat for dinner and to meet the Dutch.
We were moored near the previous night's position and the water looked too poluted to swim in today. The tides must not have been cleaning things out. That is the problem with Ha Long. They restrict the tourist boats to certain moorings and there are WAY too many of them for the area. It's overrun.
