I went for an ayvedic massage and the women was like hulk hogan I thought she was taking the muscle from my bone when she was massaging me. it was like she was scrubbing some potatoes or rolling me flat like a chapatti. I felt really great afterwards though.
I've left arugam bay now moving further up the coast. This side of the country seems to have a tamil hindu and muslim majority and was badly affected by the war. Its really noticeable after spending most of my time the colombo side of the country (west?) and on the south which wasn't really that involved. The infrastructure isn't very good and people seem much more poor some living in tin/mud shacks (I take back my statement about the poverty here). It's like being in a different country, the Buddhist temples have been replaced with Hindu temples and huge mosques and as its the high season on this side of the island and low on the other it's soo hot. I've badly planned my route back to colombo, now just waiting for 5 hours at a deserted train station with angry staff hoping that there will be seats on the train. I've booked my outward trip to laos in 3 days. I don't really know much about it so I better get reading my 10 year old lonely planet! I'm sure it will be better than my 1988 travel guide to Sri Lanka advising that "trouble seems to be brewing in the north"
